Earlier in my career at IFC (International Finance Corporation) I analyzed and reported on IFC’s investment portfolio performance. This included understanding portfolio drivers, cash flow analysis and equity versus loan performance. In addition to Client specific analysis, we would aggregate results for each region and industry to assess against earlier years and deduce trends.

The message from our Executive Vice President at the time:

“At IFC, we are optimists. We have to be. Our mission is to make progress against one of the oldest, deepest, and seemingly most intractable problems of humanity: poverty. That mission requires a philosophy of hope. It requires us to engage, inform, invest, and innovate.”

The annual report 2001 is a good example of that.
